What we offer is a beautiful and spacious old stone house in the heart of the unspoiled Chianti countryside. It has been completely and caringly restored to a high standard and furnished with antique pieces belonging to the owners.

What we offer is a beautiful and spacious old stone house in the heart of the unspoiled Chianti countryside. It has been completely and caringly restored to a high standard and furnished with antique pieces belonging to the owners.
The view from the hilltop - over 600 meters - where the property stands, is truly breathtaking: olive trees, vineyards and forests dot the open hilly landscape, whilst Siena and its towers are visible in the far distance.
There are two terraces, of which one covered, fully equipped for al fresco dining (mobile barbecues provided). A lovely garden surrounds the entire house, enhancing the tranquility and privacy of the property. The secluded swimming pool is only a few steps away.
If more than ten guests wish to stay at the property a small detached unit for 2 (bedroom and bathroom - not individually let) across the courtyard can be additionally booked.
Both Siena and Florence, as well as charming hamlets, small towns and castles, with all their cultural and artistic attractions are easily reachable by car. The property is close to Gaiole in Chianti (5km) and Radda in Chianti (8km).
The owners are winemakers and live nearby in the main house of the property. They will personally greet their guests and are ready to assist and advise them at any time, to make their stay truly special and memorable.
Wine tastings and guided tours of cellar & vineyard can be arranged. Guests can also participate in cooking classes; the owner is part of the Tutti-a-Tavola world-known cooking-classes program.

About Franca
I used to be a teacher of English at the Italian school and my husband, Franco, was a top manager in the oil-industry for all his career. Our family has moved around a lot, living both in Italy and the UK. Our desire has always been to end up putting roots in a beautiful countryside and we were lucky enough to find Podere Ciona.

Why This Property?
My husband and I were looking for a place in the countryside to retire to, after many years of working in Italy and abroad, when we came across a small, beautiful, albeit run down property: 100 acres of land, mostly wooded with 10 acres set aside for cultivation, of which 2.5 acres already had vineyards; a house from the 18th Century, abandoned for more than 40 years; and, above all, a view withou

My husband and I were looking for a place in the countryside to retire to, after many years of working in Italy and abroad, when we came across a small, beautiful, albeit run down property: 100 acres of land, mostly wooded with 10 acres set aside for cultivation, of which 2.5 acres already had vineyards; a house from the 18th Century, abandoned for more than 40 years; and, above all, a view without equal on the Chianti hills, with Siena in the distance.
We purchased the estate at the beginning of 1990 and we immediately started the reconstruction work on the main house (it took nearly three years). We also set up a small but well equipped wine cellar for making wine. In 1996, when my husband retired, we permanently moved to live on the estate and the following year, the great 1997 vintage, saw the birth of the first “official” wine of Podere Ciona: a Chianti Classico DOCG Riserva.
Between 2000 and 2003, we decided to replant all the available land with vines, build a new wine cellar that would be needed for the larger production and purchase another small property not far from the estate, destined to become our “agriturismo”, today Le Diacce. We wished to share such a stunning place and introduce guests from all over the world to the beautiful land of Chianti and to its wines.

Our wine production has grown throughout the years and has been awarded in the United States and Italy.
Truly a family owned and operated estate, Franca manages the Agriturismo and Franco manages the vineyards. Son, Lorenzo, is the winemaker and daughter-in-law, Jennifer, handles all the sales and marketing. We have been welcoming guests for close to 15 years and love to meet people from all over the world. You will feel part of the family during your stay at Podere Ciona.
