The house was beautiful and very well appointed. It was nice to have things like spices, paper towel. dish soap, etc in the house. We rent a lot of houses and they do not all offer that. We loved the house and its location. A few very minor things I would note....all the other houses in this development has a beautiful view of the mountains. This house does not. The washer has the longest wash cycle ever. We ended up needed to do a fair bit of laundry and it took a long time, but were grateful for the laundry facilities. The futon furniture up stairs needed a few minor repairs. Overall, we loved the house!
We were wonderfully over-served by the lovely Lazy Moose Lodge as there were just two of us. The place comfortably sleeps 8 and easily sleeps 12 (if you use the futon and pull out sofa-bed) so we felt like kings of the forest! The place smells wonderfully of freshly sawed wood. The kitchen is well-appointed with everything you'll need - even a Slow Cooker. (Except for a tea kettle. Why do no home owner's provide a tea kettle? To us, it seems to be an essential part of the kitchen. You never know just how much until you no longer have one. We travel with a "traveling" teapot, as well, so no tea kettle is an inconvenience.) There are plenty of extra towels and washcloths. The "cabin" is warm, welcoming, and felt remarkably rustic and woodsy even though it is a curated sort of rusticity - read: high end and sumptuous. We were so happy to be out of the hubbub of West Yellowstone. We are NOT West Yellowstone kind of people and avoid all sorts of traps: booby traps, claptrap and tourist traps among them. Thankfully the cabin is about seven miles out of town. An easy (and very quick) drive at Montana's 70 mph speed limit. LOL. The exception in town was the Playmill Theatre. That was the real deal. Not some second-rate summer stock. (BOOK YOUR TICKETS AND GO!) Good food was more than a little difficult to locate in West Yellowstone. The Chinese food was sub-standard, likewise the new Pho shop. Beartooth BBQ was not it! Not at all. We did have a very good breakfast at Old Town Cafe that featured a bison patty and some very nice biscuits and gravy. That we recommend! Don't worry about the food. You have a lovely kitchen back at your million dollar cabin, right? There are two medium-sized grocery stores in town that are more than adequately stocked for your cooking needs. (The West Entrance to Yellowstone is easier to use than the other entrances. Too bad the tourism of West Yellowstone got so out of hand.) Gosh, we had a lovely time. We even assembled a rather hard-to-complete jigsaw puzzle that we found in the cabin. I haven't done that since I was a kid... (The owners of the cabin gave us a "welcome call" on our cell phone - always a nice thing to do and so rare in our experience with home owners. To me, it shows they care and are "on call" should anything out of the ordinary be needed.) You will not find better accommodation near the West Entrance of Yellowstone than the Lazy Moose Lodge. You certainly won't find it in West Yellowstone itself. That you can take to the bank.
The Lazy Moose was a spacious, wonderful, relaxing home that we looked forward to coming back to after a long day in the park, horseback riding, site seeing, etc. This home has everything anyone could need including a relaxing, peaceful back porch overlooking the Gallatin Forest which we enjoyed daily. We stayed in the Mini Moose two years ago, and we loved it as well, however, we invited friends with us and needed more room. We would highly recommend this beautiful home as well as any of the three homes offered by this owner.
What a fantastic vacation home from which to enjoy the Yellowstone/Teton areas. All the comforts of a well equipped and constructed cabin. Had the privilege of meeting the very welcoming and gracious owners. Quality people offering a quality temporary home.
Three generations of our family stayed at the Lazy Moose and Mountain View Lodges during our vacation to Yellowstone. They are right near each other and were the perfect solution for our extended family – everyone had the privacy they wanted, there were enough bathrooms & showers for everyone, and we gathered together for home-cooked breakfasts and some dinners, using the well-appointed kitchens, with plenty of seating. The Lazy Moose Lodge has a back porch where the grown-ups gathered after the kids were tucked in. The west entrance of Yellowstone is only about 7 miles away, and we spent full days enjoying the different areas of the park. (Saw lots of wildlife, geysers, hot springs, waterfalls and had several great hikes in the park!) Grandpa and the grandkids even took a short hike in the forest behind our lodges. Both lodges are absolutely beautiful and nicely decorated. We arrived here from more rustic accommodations in the Grand Tetons National Park, so we were grateful for the full-sized kitchen and washer and dryer. We would highly recommend these lodges to anyone – they are by far the best vacation rentals we have ever stayed at!
