Bay Watch Cabin opens in May and closes late October. Summer bookings: between the last week of June to the end of the second week of September bookings are weekly only running from Friday to Friday. At other times there is a 2 night minimum and bookings may start on any day of the week.
The cabin has a mix of antique items and modern purchases and it was decorated for comfort and with water holidays in mind.
The master bedroom has a queen size bed, and bedroom #2 has a bunk bed combination of a full and twin bed. So, whether you are a family of 4 or two couples this would suit you well. (Bay Watch also has two additional fold out beds and a queen futon for a small additional fee, but the cabin is only 612 square feet so use of the extra bedding will make it a tight squeeze. See the guest guide below.) At Bay Watch the beds are all made up for you and the bath linen, kitchen linen and kitchen items are all onsite ready for you to use.
The Bay Watch Cabin's deck is great for relaxing and taking in the view, or for having a romantic evening dinner. There is a fire pit in the back yard and it has a grill plate that swings over so you can cook your steaks over the wood fire. There is also a small portable camping charcoal grill for use out on the grass although this will be replaced soon with a permanent charcoal park grill.
The Cabin is a very short walk to the center of town, and beach access road is about 100 yards to the west (there is also another road to the beach to the east). Bay Watch is set back one lot from the beachfront, on the water side of the road, with no houses or roads between the Bay Watch and the water to block your view, only a few trees for a wind break.
The kitchen is compact with a medium size fridge and a new large gas electronic range (not yet depicted in the photos). The laundry has a large stacked front loader washer and dryer for your use. The house has a large gas space heater which easily caters to the whole home.
The living room comes appointed with a flat screen television, cable television, queen futon chair, a large swivel arm chair and a retro white leather swivel chair. There are also a variety of games for adults and children to use for those times when you are indoors or TV is not your thing.
At various times each day at the Bay Watch Cabin you will hear the Catholic Church chime their lovely songs across Grand Marais. Please come and take in the peaceful surrounds of Grand Marais with one awesome view.
CHANGE OVER DAY: From late June to mid-September weekly (7 nights) bookings from Friday to Friday. All other times a 2 night minimum with change over day open.
OPEN: Currently open from May to late October. Closed November to April.
INTERNET: No WiFi in the Bay Watch Cabin. Free WiFi internet available at various places around town, including (subject to change without notice) at the Diner a short distance away and at the Grand Marais Outfitters in town.
OPTIONS TO BOOK: We now have two ways to pay. You can choose to pay in two payments through VRBO - 50% to book and remainder is due 2 weeks prior to arrival (www.vrbo.com/596236). VRBO now charges a service fee for all bookings. Alternatively, and without a service fee, we can manually process a credit card for a single payment for the full cost of your booking through PayPro.
GUEST GUIDE:
2 renters = perfect size
4 renters = almost perfect size except you'll have to share a bathroom
5 renters = getting a little tight as 3 people will share a bedroom
6 renters = you'll need at least one additional sleeping item made up ($30 per item), and the bathroom use will be a little inconvenient, plus there will not be enough living room and dining room seats for you all
7-9 renters = additional sleeping item makeups needed (2 fold outs and 1 futon available @$30 per item), really inconvenient bathroom use, and not enough seating
10 renters = can't do it
Ten things to do around Grand Marais:
1. Visit the local restaurants: The West Bay Diner (you will wait for your food, but it is good), The Sportsmans (a real U.P. feel to it), The Dunes Saloon (the local watering hole with some really good pizza), the Breakwall Bakery and Cafe (the newest restaurant in town).
2. Swim at East Bay or West Bay beaches.
3. Walk Agate Beach from the lighthouse to Sable Falls. Or walk along the road to Sable Falls west along Carlson Street and H-58, then down the side of the falls, and back to the Lake Street in town.
4. Walk the trails both east and west of Grand Marais.
5. Visit the Agate Museum and other antique and gift shops in town.
6. Thursday night is farmers' market in the town park - locals sell their homegrown and homemade goods - there are some excellent cooks living in Grand Marais.
7. See Dennis/Kim at the Grand Marais Outfitters to organize or rent a kayak, a four wheeler, or a charter boat tour/fishing expedition.
