We offer year round comfort. Central air-conditioning will cool you on warm summer nights. In cooler seasons, this fully insulated home has a new furnace to keep you warm. Small yard includes firepit and lawn chairs for evening relaxation and roasting marshmallows. The beach allows for more area to play, build a campfire, treasure hunt (we have lots of beach glass!), swim, explore or skip stones.
THE SETTING
Located in the small town of North East, PA, east of Erie, we're in a small, beautiful, historically cottage neighborhood with access to a private beach for residents and guests only. Over the years, many of the vintage cottages have been renovated into modern beach homes.
Beach access is easy -- no cliffs, no bluffs, no staircases -- just a short walk 99 steps down our quiet road. We have a natural Lake Erie shoreline with stones and sand where you can swim, hunt for beach glass, skip stones, sunbathe, build driftwood camp fires, roast marshmallows and hot dogs over a fire, make s'mores, walk along the shore or enjoy a glass of wine while watching our fabulous sunsets. Each night is a different show -- my favorite is when the sun 'falls' into the lake in front of colorful skies.
We recommend beach stone painting and driftwood painting as a fun activity for all ages. You provide the artists. The beach provides the stones and plenty of driftwood for crafts or campfires!
CYCLING & RUNNING
Bring your bikes... with only 12 homes on our tucked away street there is very little car traffic between the house and the beach. Older kids can ride around the neighborhood, and adults can be more adventurous if you'd like. North East is gorgeous for biking and running with miles of vineyards and orchards.
BOATS & SMALLCRAFT
Launch your kayak, paddleboard or sailboard right from the beach. Ask about kayak and paddleboard rentals. Larger boats and jet skis can be launched from the North East Marina, just 1.4 miles east. Daily and temporary docking available at the North East Marina. Fishing licenses and bait also available at the North East Marina.
VINEYARDS, ORCHARDS, WINERIES
In the heart of Pennsylvania's wine country, you'll see miles of grape vineyards and orchards. Pick-ur-own or buy freshly-picked produce at one of numerous roadside farmstands. Watch wine being made and experience wine tastings as close as 0.5 mile away -- ask me to arrange a private winery tour. If you are lucky enough to visit during grape harvest in September, you'll experience the aroma of ripened grapes on the vine as the aroma fills the town.
WORLD CLASS FISHING RIGHT HERE
Fishermen love our proximity to excellent walleye, perch, lake trout, bass and steelhead fishing -- this is the world reknowned steelhead alley. We are located between 16 and 20 Mile Creeks. Elk Creek and Walnut Creek are 30-40 minutes. Looking for a Charter? Don't pick blindly. When you stay at any of my homes (owned or managed), and whether you boat fish or creek fish, ask me to put you in touch with my brothers who fish on a pro team locally and offer charters. I can also recommend an awesome fishing guide. Ask your fishing questions here.
QUAINT TOWN & CONVENIENT SHOPS
Town is 3 miles and offers Sander's grocery store, CVS drug store, art galleries, children's toy store, Boston Bean Cafe, pizza shops, casual restaurants, Bella Day Spa, the new Grape Country Marketplace for local products and artwork, and a new restaurant and bar, The Cork 1794, Lake Country Bike Shop, an antique shop and a coin shop.
ANNUAL EVENTS
Don't miss 'Thursdays in the Park' in downtown North East during the summer -- free events each week feature a farmer's market and family entertainment every Thursday during the summer months. Check the North East Chamber of Commerce website for year round events. Summer events include weekly live Music in the Vineyards, Picnic in the Park and Farmer's Markets, and local festivals. High Season continues into fall when the wineries are abuzz with harvesting. WineFest (last weekend of September) and Harvest Wine Fests (the first two weekends of November) are bustling event weekends. Lake Erie Wine Country events occur throughout the year โ see their website. Surprise your Valentine with the Wine & Chocolate Event in February. Uncorked is a fun March wine walk event with a dress-the-theme component. Wine & Cheese Weekend occurs in May.
OFF-SEASON
Some prefer to visit on a quieter weekend when the wineries are quieter and winemakers have more time to spend with each guest. Try winter or spring for a more personal experience and for snow sports at Peek 'n Peak Ski Resort. Wineries are open YEAR ROUND, with the exception of major holidays when some wineries close for one day only.
SHOPPING SAVINGS
Are you a shopper? Many people visit Erie to shop with no sales tax on clothing. How about a holiday shopping weekend? Veteran's Day has great sales. Stay in November or December when the rates are lower and shop 'til you drop.
Or, create your own event. Wine tasting tours for ladies or couples groups are a fun getaway. Add a spa visit while you're here. Visit the Presque Isle Downs & Casino for nightlife. Ask me for my thoughts on your getaway plan. I will help make your planning easy.
