He worked for NPR right out of college and now works at Royall and Co. in Richmond I was raised in Baltimore, graduated from The Bryn Mawr School and Hollins University in VA where I spent my junior year studying in Paris. My husband is from Washington State, graduated from George Washington University with a degree in journalism and we met when we both worked for The National Geographic Society. I grew up summering in Maine at our family's lakeside cottage which my grandparents built in 1917 - Kill Kare Kamp - which we now offer for weekly summer rentals from mid-June to mid-September.

Kill Kare is a perfect base from which to explore the beauty that is Maine and the scenic towns and areas along the nearby coast: Blue Hill, Deer Isle, Stonington, Castine, Cape Rosier, Camden, Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor and Southwest Harbor.
We have created an extensive online Renter's Guide that is available to guests and includes all kinds of information about the cottage, it's history, driving directions, contact information, and loads of suggestions for what to do and see, what to hike and climb and where to shop and eat in the area. It is a wonderful resource that guests refer to frequently. There will be a hard copy of this information when you arrive at the cottage.

There are very few places in this world where you can sit on a porch that is built directly out over the water. Environmentally speaking, houses like Kill Kare are no longer allowed to be built so close to the shoreline. We consider ourselves very lucky to feel as though we are on a private yacht when sitting on our expansive wrap-around porch. The lake is literally at your front door. There is a dock and float making lake access easy. The water is lovely and temperate for swimming and boating - much more comfortable than swimming in the ocean waters. And yet, we are very close to Maine's stunning the coast. You can be there in minutes. Memorable sunsets can be enjoyed from our porch which faces west. Enjoy the call of loon and eagle sightings. Starry nights are the stuff of dreams. There is so little ambient light that you feel as though you can reach up and touch the stars. A wood fire in our massive fieldstone fireplace is a cozy way to end the day. And, there is no greater sleeping pill than to fall asleep to the gentle lap of waves against the rocks. Bliss!
