โThe Lookoutโ is surrounded by civil war history, Appalachian Trail, white water rating, tubing, bike the C&O Canal or rail trail, or take a day trip into Washington DC.
While only 10 minutes from Antietam battlefield, several other battlefields are within easy driving distance: South Mountain battlefields - 10 miles, Monocacy battlefield - 25 miles, Harpers Ferry - 15 miles, Gettysburg - 45 miles (retrace Leeโs retreat thru Williamsport). John Brownโs headquarters is less than 10 miles away.
Many guest have completed the Maryland section of the AT while stay at The Lookout. Use Gathland State Park as a starting point for some day hiking on the Appalachian Trail - 6 miles away. Or drive 10 miles over to the C&O canal for some easy hiking or if you bring your bikes โ some relaxing bike riding. Either method is a great way to have some fun outdoors - even get some exercise.
The cottage is 4miles from Big Cork Vineyard offering tours, tastings, and weekend music and wedding venue and 5 miles from Boonsboro, stay during book signing weekends or JFK 50 mile.
Other activities: Gettysburg, Harpers Ferry, Wine tours, Outlet shopping in Hagerstown, antique stores, museums, restaurants - all close by and easy to get to.
